Shopping in Jerusalem & Tzfat

Traveling in a week with a group to Israel, never been there! Have a passion for local crafts and markets. Looking for specific artisans &/or markets to shop in Jerusalem & Tzfat.

What is the locale known for?

Saw a shopping thread on Trip Advisor that looked great, but it was 2006-2007, concerned that it might not be accurate anymore.

All leads welcome!

In Tel Aviv go to the Nahlat Binyamin market on Tuesdays and Fridays. Lots of stalls of artists and craftsmen displaying their goods. Also walk around the Neve Tzedek quarter for cute little shops. Jaffa flea market and the old city are is also fun. Tzfat is small and you will no doubt see the old quarter and its small shops and the artists quarter. In Jerusalem, you will probably do most of your shopping in the old city. Be aware that many of these places are tourist traps and you can bargain with the price (not in Tel Aviv I don't think). Traditional gifts include Armenian pottery, glassware, silverware, but there are a lot of modern Israeli craftsmen offering different things. Enjoy!!!

There are many artisans with shops in the market in Tzfat - including jewelry, micrography and more - don't miss the candle factory there.

In Jerusalem, if you are there on a Friday morning make sure to see the Betzalel market - it's on Betzalel street - lots of young local artists selling their creations.

This is great, Thank You

Is bargaining price common all over?
Are most shops artists & commercial only open during business hours (9-5ish)? Or are any open in the evenings? Much of my free time is in the evenings.

This is very helpful!
