September Honeymoon in South Africa?

We are planning our 2 week honeymoon to South Africa arriving September 15th. We'd like to do a safari, CapeTown, winelands and possibly the Garden Route - but looking for warm weather or beach destnations. Will the Garden Route provide this in late September? (seems like too much to try to tack on the Seychelles instead).

Hello Jen

Unfortunately warm weather, with emphasis on beach destinations, during the month of September are going to be difficult to find in Cape Town as well as on the Garden Route. I understand that this might be your need however don’t let it deter you from visiting this wonderful part of our country as there is so much more to do than simply going to the beach. Amongst others the scenery alone is to die for let alone the fact the as South Africans we pride ourselves on our hospitality so much so that you wont want to leave us no matter where you travel in our great land.

Hope you visit us in September and if you need any further advice simply use the Fodors webpage as there are lots of us (Karen, Lisa Waverley, Traci) over here in advisory capacity who would be very happy to help you to make your stay in SA a memorable one.

Selwyn Davidowitz
As usual Selwyn is spot on about Cape Town and surrounds, and I also agree with him wholeheartedly - come and visit SA! To meet your requirements about a beach honeymoon, the one thing that SA has a big selling point is that one country offers so many different holiday experiences. In your two week trip in late September it is possible to find what you are looking for:
Do the safari part in KwaZulu-Natal, spend your time on the beach on the KwaZulu-Natal north or south coasts, and then travel to Cape Town. The KZN coastline will be very comfortable in late September - warm enough for the beach but not yet as boiling hot as it gets in mid-summer. Most of SA is in the middle of a heatwave at the moment so I am VERY sensitive to temperature concerns! If you were only planning on doing the Garden Route to have a beach experience then I would rather skip it at that time of year.
