Security at Egyptian Airports

Has anyone experienced check in staff being bribed to switch off the weighing and scanning equipment due to overweight.
Four years ago I witnessed the passengers in front of me pay £20 for an extra bag to go through.
We have done this twice when my wife was rather profligate on the souvenir front .

So you're boasting about your inability to travel light and, worse, bribing officials and asking for tips about doing so? Way to get on my ignore the *** list.

In light of what has happened in Egypt recently, and the news reports that perhaps security is lax, I interpret this question as wondering about the thoroughness of security and the risks involved in flying in Egypt. ..."the weighing and scanning equipment"...

@julies - then why brag about bribing officials yourself?

Let's let the OP tell us why he made this inquiry.

The answer is simple, I wanted to know how widespread this practice is and to inform people it went on.
