Samburu Serena rebuilt in June 2011
We have discussed Samburu Serena elsewhere on the forum since the flood, but I cannot find it. No Samburu Serena for any of us in 2010.

Thank you for the update. I'm in the planning stage now so that information will be helpful.

Sopa or Simba are options if you are headed to Samburu.

I'm SO glad we switched to Sopa. We considered trying to stick with Serena and trying to switch last minute if it wasn't ready. Thank you and Sandi for the recommendation of Sopa and thanks for the update.

Good thing we're planning on going in 2011 Oct!

I also thought there was another thread about Samburu Serena but I can't find it by searching here or using google.
Let me get this straight before I tell someone their itinerary won't work. Samburu Serena is closed for 2010 because of flood damage and will not be rebuilt until sometime in 2011. Right? Are there any camps open for Sept 2010 in Samburu? If they are planning Amboseli Serena first and Mara Serena last, what would you put in the middle if Samburu won't work out? |
I read on another forum that Larsens will reopen on June 15th.
Outside of the reserve (undamaged) are Sasaab and Saruni. |
We stayed at Samburu Saruni in 2008, before it was completed. The property is stunning, set on cliffs. The accomodations are also absolutely beautiful with incredible views. That being said, there are some limitations. Samburu Reserve is quite a long drive each day...possibly 45 minutes to an hour. You do travel through Buffalo Springs Reserve, but there was not much game viewing there. We saw only one lion in three days and no other cats. Of course, this may just have been our personal experience. We saw very few other vehicles, so that is a plus. There are some extensive reviews on tripadvisor.com

You would've driven through Kalama Conservancy to get to Samburu Reserve. Buffalo Springs is south of the Ewaso Nyiro from Samburu. |
