Samburu or Amboseli in July?
Our last decision (for now at least) on our safari is whether to go to Samburu or Amboseli. We'd fly to either. We have kids (not little ones) and would likely stay at the Serena at one or the other.
Any pros or cons of either park?

A common question as you can see.

July is a good time of year for either place.
Comments on the 2 Serenas only:
I stayed at the Samburu Serena and visited the Amboseli Serena. I liked the Samburu Serenda better because it's location on the Uaso Nyiro River banks. It also is in a nice part of the park for wildlife.
The Amboseli Serena seemed overwhelmingly big to me. I don't think its location is exceptional, but not bad.
The quality of accommodations in either place should be fine as Serena has good quality. I'll be staying at a few Serenas on my next Kenya visit.

It will depend on what you want to experience, amboseli is famous mostly with elephants, snows of Kilimanjaro and other wild life, but samburu you will experience variety of wild life, the park is also quiet and does not have high traffic of tourist like Amboseli,so samburu is a nice place to be,accommodation for Serena hotels are excellent.

Hi GoCathy
Lynn has given you some nice past discussions
i'd vote (again) for Samburu
my pros and cons are in:
http://www.fodors.com/community/afri...or-samburu.cfm
having been to both a lot of times
i must say, in contrary to opulentafrica, that Samburu may be crowded especially near the river and lodges, but if you camp or go to the far corners of Buffalo Springs or north=east Samburu you may find some "peace" without too many Wazungu
aby
i must say i'm really missing Samburu as i've not been there for a number of years, and i'm ready to give up even Serengeti (where i've been going more in the last years) for a re-visit to Samburu
