SAFETY CONCERNS AND LOCATION

I am thinking of taking a vacation to Cape Town in October, is this a good time to go ?.
I have never been to South Africa before and want to combine a city break together with a beach. Is Cape Town safe for tourists and can you recommend a beach area to continue onto after Cape Town which would also be a safe area for tourists.

Thanks for replying

Andy

October is a good month to go - good weather and less tourists. (See my response to another thread about non-driver in SA).

Cape Town has very good beaches, ie Melkbos and Blouberg beaches (with VERY cold water but beautiful view of Table Mountain). Beaches for swimming are Clifton and Camps bay - all of these are safe for tourists, but don't leave your 1000 USD notes lying around - they will disappear....

See www.southafrica.net and go to "cities" for links to Cape Town websites - they will give you more info.
