Safety??

Is Tanzania safe????
We are going on our honeymoon in September and are worried traveling with an American tour operator?

Read post above "leaving tomorrow"

There are plenty of posts on this board re safety in Africa, whether East or Southern. You'll be just fine whether traveling with an in-country, UK, AU, US tour operator. Use the same cautions you would traveling anywhere in the world these days. East Africa is perfectly safe. Enjoy your honeymoon.

We are also honeymooning in Kenya/Tanzania in September and are a little concerned about the warnings, but are still planning on going. We leave on the 7th from Denver and are using Good Earth Tours.

Hi,

My husband was concerned about the warnings too. We did a 12 day safari in both Kenya and Tanzania and never felt unsafe. We always carried money in a money belt or put it in the hotel's safe. That was really our only concern (having something stolen from the room) as it is any time you travel anywhere. We felt extremely safe, as your out in the bush most of the time. You are almost always with a guide anywhere you go. I felt like we were escorted the entire time, and the guides definitely don't want anything to happen to you on their watch. As for terrorism, where is safe? It isn't something you can plan for and it seems like it can happen anywhere. It is a very nice place to honeymoon.

I feel safer traveling to Africa and being in the bush than I do here in the US this week. I live within 15 miles of a nuclear power plant which is in relative close proximity to downtown Boston, where the DNC is having its shing-ding this week. Security precautions around here are enough to make me want to run to Africa right now!

I'm in total agreement w/ SusanLynne.
Living in a big city in the U.S. is much more threatening to me safety- wise than my trips to Africa.
There are many precautions taken by the countries to ensure your holiday will be a enjoyable one.

SusanLynne-
On a side note, last Sat. night, I missed winning the Powerball by only the last two numbers. That totally sucked!!...being sooooo close, yet so far away. Aaaaargh! Gotta keep trying though so I can buy that property in Africa!!!

Divewop: That property is still on the market! It will be waiting for either of us. You were a lot closer than I was with Powerball. Not one number. I should have played Tri-State Megabucks, then I would have had five numbers! Go figure!
