Safari Operators...

Hi ,

Can you please comment on the following safari operators.

Roy Safaris Ltd.
http://www.roysafaris.com/

Access 2 Tanzania
http://www.access2tanzania.com/

Both the companies have been extremely helpful in fine tuning my plans to Tanzania.

I have read about Roy Safaris a lot but havent heard much about the other company. Your inputs will be much appreciated and will help me make a decision.

No one can know each and every in-country outfitter, such as Roy Safaris; or those US-based as Access2Tanzania, but are they both providing the same services, number of days, parks/reserves, accommodations, private itineraries, vehicles, guides, etc. Do they create an itinerary based on seasonal differences, best places to be when you're traveling, or work with a set itinerary and no deviations?

I guess the reason you hear so much about Roy Safaris is because they've been in business for quite some time and the positive feedback from travelers has been posted here. That's not to say that newcomers (even if not that new, just an unfamiliar name) can't provide equal services.

I did check the Access 2 Tanzania site and notice they provide up to 3* accommodations, but then that might be what you're seeking. It's not clear whether if you were seeking something better, they could provide it.

Let's see what other Fodorites have to say.

A good place to start is the list of licensed outfitters issued by the Tanzania Ministry of Tourism.

http://www.tourismtanzania.go.tz/doc...T%20AGENTS.htm or http://tanzaniatouristboard.com

If A2T is not on this list then it is best to dig deeper.

We've had so many, many folks here use Roy Safaris and I am using them for the first time. I think www.2afrika.com is another very worthwhile outfitter. They do group and private safaris. I haven't used them but I recommend them after having heard from so very many loyal fans that have.
I just haven't used or heard of Access 2 Tanzania. Doesn't mean its not good. Do what climbhigh, sleepslow says. He's been there and knows. Liz
