Safari in January, 2010
My husband and I are going to be in Kenya late January, 2010 and would appreciate advice as to the best place for a safari given the time frame. We're also interested in recommendations for 5 star safaris. Many thanks

Just clarify whether you travel to KENYA, TANZANIA as tagged or BOTH before we all start to bombard you with info. THX! SV |
Yeh, confusing. Going to Kenya for safari or arriving Kenya for safari in Tanzania?
Also, you say "my husband and I ARE going to be" - is it definite? Do you have an itinerary? Where? And, as to "5-star" everyone's idea is different. Costs for this can range from $500-$1,000/person per night. Is this what your budget is/can accommodate? More info needed? |
weather reduces the accuracy of these or any rules of thumb.
http://www.africa-adventure.com/dsp_besttime.html This one focuses on “perfect” safaris Kenya and Tanzania in January http://www.kiliwarriors.com/ Your # of travel days will have dictate whether you can visit both Kenya and Tanzania and where you should go. In late January the wildebeest and zebra migration is in the Southern Serengeti of Tanzania. Lodging in this area (Ndutu) may be hard to get at this date. The Maasai Mara in Kenya is always good, migration or not. If you had a price range to go along with 5-star, then more specific recommendations on lodging could be given. Luxury tented camps are often more expensive than solid-walled lodges. Looking forward to more details from you. |
We've heard that Serengeti is the best place to go at this time of the year. We're thinking $500 a night, probably looking at 4 or 5 days/nights. Hope this helps.

I'm still a bit confused by your mention of both Kenya and Tanzania. Are you going to be in Kenya for some other reason like a conference? If not, it would be easier to fly into Kilimanjaro, Tanzania if you plan to spend your safari time in Tanzania especially given your short time frame. Also could you clarify if the $500 a night is per person?
