Safari Drive

Planning a trip to Kenya and hopefully Tanzania this July. Any thoughts about: 1. going this time of the year and 2. what is it like driving from camp to camp?

I was in Tanzania this past June. It was early in the seaon so there were not as many tourists. Since we booked with local operators they met with us upon our arrival to insure our comfort. We stayed at three different Serena lodges when we were doing the northern safari circuit. The roads are most unpaved and are dusty but still bearable as long as you can get into the right frame of mind (meaning don't expect all the niceties that you find in industrialized countries). The roads in Arusha are the worst I have ever seen. But, again just psyche yourself up. Otherwise the whole experience was a good one. Good luck.
