Hello,

Thanks for your suggestions. For now, I think it would be easiest if you email the photos to me -- I have a Gmail account so storage capacity is not a problem.

It would help if the JPEGS were labelled (briefly) - 'Mombo Rm 3 Loo 6/06' or something along that line is fine. If you include the other information in your email (as per initial post), I should be able to figure it out. I'll add this information into the comments section on Kodak.

Thank for the recommendation, Tom -- I have Photoshop so that should be fine for JPEG viewing.

This looks like it's going to be a big project...please be patient and I'll get the pics up as soon as I can!

Cheers,
Julian

Julian I just finished processing 54 images for you of accommodation we used during our South Africa trip. This is all either guest houses or self-catering accommodation within the parks which I know others do use so I think it'll be useful to have it up there.

I wonder whether it might be easier to track down images if we separate albums by country?

I'd be happy to take on responsibility for creating or looking after one of the albums if you like - South Africa would make most sense but any would be fine.

Anyway, I won't email the pics to you until I've spoken to you as they come to 2 MEG in total. I've sized each one to 600 pixels longest side and saved them for web use to compress them as much as possible.

For most accommodations I have a number of images as many self-catering accommodations have an outdoor shot, indoor shots of the bedroom area, the bathroom, the kitchen, the living area and perhaps another outdoor shot of the verandah/ braai area.

Kavey, we're seriously considering a self drive in Kruger for next August with our two girls. Was last there in 92 staying in Skukuza, Olifantes and off hand I can't remember the third so I'll look foward to seeing any you may have of Kruger's camps nowadays.

Matt, no problem. I'm also London based so perhaps we can arrange a GTG sometime soon and I can tell you all about the details of our 5 week self-drive in South Africa?

Kavey, it'll be a pleasure to hook up: I live in Lisbon but come across many times a year with my family to see my parents. (My wife is Portuguese as Julian knows.) They live just north of Brighton. We'll be over in mid November and again at Christmas - I seem to spend all my holiday money and time going back to England rather than Africa... I'm not that much of an interesting person at all but I'm sure you'll be able to put up with me for an hour or two over lunch. Perhaps this could be an advance notice for Julian too?

I've not yet met someone who is of no interest - I really love meeting people and I tend to find most people have something interesting to share if one asks the right questions! I'm sure Julian will be able to join us too. Do you think you might be over again before November, or not likely?

Julian feel free to use my Chiawa and Sausage Tree photos from my Zambia trip (from Kodak slideshow). If you need the originals, let me know.

I ended up with over 100 images which I thought was a bit excessive to email so I've uploaded them to my flickr account (it's the quickest option for me as I have their flickr uploader tool installed on my PC which allows me to select as many images as I like in my Windows Explorer window and drag and drop them in one go to the flickr uploader which then asks me which set to upload them into and goes off and does the lot in one go).

So it only took me 2 mins to upload the lot. That after several hours processing! LOL And then I spent half an hour adding more detailed descriptions to each one.

You can either view them here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/kavey/1...7594165960597/

Or Julian you can copy them to KodakGallery.

Though that said, only after I put mine on flickr I suddenly thought, one advantage of flickr, which I've been using a lot recently due to my participation in a photo hobbiest website, allows individuals to create their own accounts, upload images and then assign those images to a group - we could easily create a group called Fodors Africa Accommodation Photos or the like and then everyone could just upload their own.

Just an idea. I'm totally cool with using Kodak Gallery too if you'd prefer to copy my images there.

I can email them to you too but then you'd just have the files not the descriptions too.

Just let me know!

Alas November will be the next time, already been over once this year when I met up with Julian. It is very difficult living under my mother's roof again having been away for sooooo long.

No worries, drop me a line when you know your dates. We'll be off to India in October but back home by November the 8th so hopefully won't miss your visit.

See my post above for photos of our accommodation in South Africa (and elsewhere).

Hi Kavey,

I'll take a look at Flickr. Personally I don't have a strong preference, but given that most people who post here are familiar with Kodak and have already registered, it may make things more accessible if we go that route.

This is meant to be as inclusive as possible -- national park rest camp photos are just as welcome as Singita photos!

Cheers,
Julian

Yes, that was the downside with flickr.

The main advantage I could see was simply this option of working with groups - anyone can create an account and add photos and organise their own images into their own sets as they wish. They can also select certain of their images and add them into groups which can be accessed by other users too.

Means the onus to load them up and label them is not all on one person.

Anyway, I'll tell you more about it tomorrow and if you want to look into it more I'd be happy to write some basic instructions up for you to try it out.

But I'm happy with Kodak Gallery too! Whatever you're happiest working with.

Hi Kavey,

Didn't realise you were still up or I would have rung you. Would you mind bringing your pics on a CD to the dinner tomorrow? That way we have all the bases covered...

Cheers,
Julian

I'm just about to go to bed (and the CD burner is not in my PC but in Pete's so it's a bit of an effort to get stuff onto CD from my PC).

If I don't have time before tomorrow night I'll try and do it in the coming days or after I get back from Wales (going next week).

I did try and ring much earlier in the evening but couldn't get through on the mobile and didn't want to ring too late.

If you want to ring now (before 12.30) please do.
