Sabi Sands Honeymoon -- Londolozi Founders or Lion Sands Ivory Lodge??

We are trying to decide whether to stay at Londolozi Rounders or Ivory Lodge.

Founders is the only camp Londolozi camp available when we will be there.

Our debate is do we stay in the more luxurious Ivory Lodge but potentially don't have as good of game viewing experience or stay at Founders where it won't be as luxurious but likely better game viewing. How does the game viewing truly differ from the two places in early September? Any advice is appreciaited!!

Austin, I posted an answer for you on TA also. but you asked a slightly different question here than there. http://www.fodors.com/community/afri...mments-openThe game viewing will not be significantly different. I my opinion, September is the best time of year to go there so with either choice, you will have a great time.

Hi Austin

I spent 2 nights at both Founders and Ivory Lodge a month ago for my honeymoon. There is a substantial difference between the standard of the rooms. From a romance perspective there is no doubt that Ivory would be the choice. The level of service, food and attention to detail is exceptional. For a honeymoon it is the ideal lodge. Although founders does not offer the same level of luxury, Founders does offer good accommodation. What I particularly enjoy about Founders is the public lounge and eating areas. In terms of game I have been very lucky at Londolozi and have always had good game viewing. It was my first trip to Lion Sands. During my stay the viewing at Londolozi was superior. Londolozi just seemed to have more general game. But at the end of the day it does come down to being at the right place at the right time. The Sabi Sands in general has excellent viewing throughout the reserve. We saw lion and Cheetah at both reserves. We didn't see leopard at Ivory. If I were to choose between the two, taking all factors into account, I would go with Ivory for a honeymoon.

I hope this helps

Hi austinf,

For a honeymoon, I would also be voting for Lion Sands Ivory, I have even stayed in their honeymoon suite - god knows why though as I had a niece with me! The difference I think was it was the furtherest from the living areas and also faced directly west to get the setting sun which seemed a huge waste to me as we were always in a game vehicle at that time.

Have also stayed at Founders and while my room was very comfortable, it was not luxurious.

Gameviewing I would stay during my stays was comparable. I certainly have seen similar game at both, though I have seen wild dog at Lion Sands and not at Londo, I have seen cheetah at Londo and not at Lion Sands. Very hard to say really that there is much of a difference.

I am not sure of the cost these days as I no longer go to either, but certainly Lion Sands Ivory was becoming overly expensive.

Kind regards

Kaye
