Sabbath
Is it possible to travel to the airport in Tel Aviv on a Sabbath?
|
The airport (though code is TLV) isn't in Tel Aviv, but closer to here than Jerusalem. From were are you traveling to get to airport? What time is your flight?
|
Yes, of course. Many flights take off and land on Saturday.
But you will need to take a taxi. There are no buses or trains on the Sabbath (with very few exceptions in a couple of cities). There is a higher taxi rate in effect on Sabbath and holidays. My taxi from a Tel Aviv hotel to Ben Gurion airport (near Lod) was about 140 shekels (about 35 US dollars). Taxi drivers do not expect tips |
Exactly what I wanted to know AlexA.
Thanx both of you! |
"Taxi drivers do not expect tips" -- Excuse me?
|
Oops... Sorry, I read it ACCEPT, instead of expect...
Even then, for a trip to the airport with luggage in the trunk, they are used to get tips from tourists. |
Oh, I know they will certainly ACCEPT tips (of course they wouldn't want to "insult" a tourist who offers one!), but my many friends have assured me that it is not standard practice to tip taxi drivers in Israel. And especially when a person is quoted a fixed fare rather than going on the meter, the driver is fine with the amount he will get.
