S. Africa in Early Sept?

My husband and I want to travel to S. Africa in early Sept, but I hear this is the end of their winter? Will it be chilly and rainy, and is it not the best time to go? If so, we were going to go first to Mauritius for 4-5 days, then come to S. Africa. Thoughts? Anyone been thee in early Sept? Any suggestions for what to do there? We want to go on Safari, explore the wine country, etc... Thanks.

Leave Cape Town to the end and do your safari at the beginning. The Cape gets most of its rainfall in the winter June - September and the rest of the country including the Kruger gets its rain in the summer October - March. September is spring and upcountry its a fabulous time to be here, warm to hot and sunny with cool evenings. Weather very changeable in the Cape at this time but shouldn't be that unpleasant. Bring lightweight rainwear!
