Rwanda wire transfer from U.S.

I'm trying to wire transfer the gorilla permit fees to ORTPN's National Bank of Rwanda account from the states. I need to know the intermediary bank in New York for the National Bank of Rwanda and the AB number. ORTPN didn't provide the info. I think it's CitiBank.

I'll try to call NBR tomorrow but my French is weak. I can try Western Union too. Any experience, knowledge or suggestions?

You need the Swift Code, ABA/Routing number and Intermediary Bank. Best that ORTPN provide the exact details. I'd send to them for this information.

I send wires regularly to Africa and as soon as the Swift Code is entered, if there is an intermediary bank, it would automatically appear. Likewise, the ABA/Routing number pops in also.

Not knowing how your bank has their system setup, it might not work as mine does.

Rather than the expense of a LD call, and possible language barrier, go to the source (ORTPN), wait for their reply. Once the correct information is in hand, you can send the wire.

Thanks for your response. ORTPN said I shouldn't need one. I called Western Union and they said it should be possible from one of their outlets.

Are you sure you need intermediary bank information? If you have the account holder's name, bank name, account number and SWIFT code, this should be sufficient.

If you have the info as Patty mentioned, which you likely do, this should be enough. THats the basic info i had when making my wires and it was fine.

However, one time when i went in to make a wire the person working told me i didnt have enough info. I told him that the swift code should work, as it had for the other wires, and he kept saying I was going to need the routing number (which i didnt have). I told him i had filled this form out the same as the others, so it should work, so he finally gave in and it worked just fine. Im just mentioning this because maybe the person you spoke with isnt really familiar with the wiring system? Good luck.

Thanks Jen,

This is what I'm suspecting. In fact, I've printed your response to take with me to my bank(Bank of America). I stopped at a Western Union outlet nearby but the form they use had no place for an account number so I didn't do it.

oh good! let us know how it turns out!

The saga ends. I went back to my bank and was helped by a different person. I explained the situation and, within five minutes, the transfer was done. That simple. Live and learn.

Thanks for you support and info,
