Rwanda/Uganda border crossing

My husband and I are planning on flying from Nairobi in July to see the Gorillas in Rwanda or Uganda after doing a 13 day tour through the Rift Valley. We have heard that the gorilla permit will be $750 in Rwanda from the 1st of June so are now looking at Uganda. Distance wise it looks like it may be better to fly into Kigali and cross the border into Uganda rather than travel from Kampala. We want to chill out for a few days at Lake Bunyonyi first before checking out the gorillas. A few questions that we would love some help with:
1. We hold NZ and Australian passports; is the border crossing from Rwanda into Uganda and visa versa easy or are we better off just sticking to Uganda and flying into Entebbe?

2. Best way to travel between Kigali and Lake Bunyonyi if we do decide to start the Rwanda side?

3. We have 10 days before flying to J'Burg - suggestions for other activities while in Uganda?
Would appreciate any feedback.
