Cape Town Accommodation
Holiday Inn Waterfront is out. They aren't able to offer any discount on the 891 ZAR per night.
I wish we could stay in Waterfront area but this looks impossible.
Any thoughts on this option:
B E S T W E S T E R N Cape Suites Hotel
Corner De Villiers & Constitution Streets
"Nestled at the foot of Table Mountain, with views of the Cape Town city skyline and Table Bay, lies the Best Western Cape Suites Hotel, a new village-style hotel with a total of 123 studio, one, two and three-bedroom suites. Guests will enjoy a home away from home environment in spacious accommodations, air-conditioned suites with fully equipped kitchens, all at four star standards."
Room Description: SUITE-1 DOUBLE BED
1 BR,LOUNGE,KITCHENETTE
Rate Plan Description: STANDARD RATE*THIS RATE IS AVAILABLE TO ALL
TRAVELERS.
Daily Rate: 450.00 South African Rand (Daily per room)
Total Rate: 2700.00 South African Rand
Tax Information: TAX* 1 PERCENT
NOT INCLUDED IN RATE
For this price would I get more from a B&B and are there better locations?
Thanks

Alternatives so far:
Holiday Inn Waterfront = 891 ZAR/ night
Best Western Cape Suites Hotel (not on waterfront) = 450 ZAR/ night
Breakwater Lodge (V&A Waterfront) = 600 ish ZAR/ night
City Lodge (V&A Waterfront) = 750 ish ZAR per night
TownHouse Hotel (not on waterfront, but looks lovely) = 850 ish ZAR/ night
Then I have a list of B&B accommodation, not in Waterfront, of course, but in other areas such as Signall Hill (not far from waterfront), Boulders Beach, False Bay, Oranjezicht, Simon?s Town, Sea Point, Roodebloem Estate,
These tend to be less than 500 ZAR/ night.

I would have made the same decision, Kavey. The City Lodge is just a plain-chain hotel, nothing surprising, but nothing outstanding either. I've always thought the Breakwater Lodge seemed interesting, but I have heard that the rooms are tiny.
DeVilliers and Constititution is near (I think, anyway) Bishop Tutu's former church. It's interesting to take a look at. You'll also be close to the Cape Town Tourist Information center from where you can organize anything. Also close to the Castle.
If you'll have a car, you can zip to the Waterfront easily.

Thanks Celia
What we're considering now is to stay first 3 nights at Waterfront WITHOUT car hire (and concentrate on sites we can reach easily using local bus transport) and then 3 nights in the Best Western with car hire starting that day.
We're thinking what we save on car hire first 3 days will make up difference in higher cost of waterfront hotels for those nights.
Is this worthwhile/ feasible?
THANKS

OK well I just changed the 6 night reservation into 2 3 night ones.
I figured that way if I do decide to cancel one I am not going to run into any problems where they tell me that if I cancel any part of a 6 night reservation they won't honour the night room rate when I keep 3 nights of it as technically that's a new reservation made at current rates.
So I had to first cancel the 6 nighter because their software is sophisticated enough to notice that there is already a reservation for those dates at that hotel under my name! Clever!
Anyway, I have to concede that Best Western central reservations online software is pretty well designed compared to pretty much any equivalent that I have personally used so far.
