My husband has the Nikon -- it takes all Nikon lenses, and he bought a telephoto lens. For close-ups of animals on the safari it worked wonderfully. We have blown up APS shots to like, 11x14 and had good results. (Afterall a Nikon is going to be reliable to start with, and we use Penn Camera, a really good shop in the DC area, for special enlargements.) But for all the rest, I preferred my Canon digital. I used a setting that allows prints of up to 20x30 on most shots, although I didn't blow any up over 8x10. (They came out fabulously.) However after seeing RuthieC's husbands shots with the Canon digital SLR with a telephoto lens -- wow, that is the way I'd go if I only wanted to take one camera.

roccco, I can't wait to see your photo's and just try to jump into everyone of them. It has been 2 years since we were in Africa and long to go back. Being held hostage by construction projects at this end of the world. My e mail address is [email protected]
Thank you so much.

Okay, I just sent out invites to Zuni and Favor. Hope you two enjoy. If there are any photos that you particularly enjoy, please leave feedback (a comment) for that individual photo. Thanks!

You have to be signed in to leave a comment -- for anyone new to ofoto, they are a Kodak site and I've used them for a couple years, to share AND to print and even got several 8x10s of mine That being their purpose, you WON'T get spam from them, in fact, I don't think I've even gotten an email from them that wasn't a friend's invite, or a confirmation of an order I'd made. So -- This is not an advertisement -- just a testimonial to what I think are probably the some of best internet business practices I've experienced over years of using the internet!

Roccco,
When you first posted this I couldn't get the link to work but now for some reason it does...Thanks so much for sharing your photographs. I particularly like the eagle and the last one of the woman on the bike. I see Scared to Death but no pictures of the photographer!

Thanks again.

Welltravelledbrit,

Yeah, I was a little camera shy this year!

Really, I hardly had enough memory space as it was, and deleted a couple dozen photos that I would have liked to retain. As it was, my 200 photos (180+ posted) only only for about 18 photos per day.

Although I didn't care the first thing about birds before this trip, with the amazing variety and quantity of birds, I couldn't help but be fascinated by them this year.

Missed out on the wild dogs, but that is about my only regret. However, the ellies and hippos more than made up for it.

Roccco, I've come to similar conclustions re birds. On my first safari, the only birds I could name were ostrich, flamingo and vulture, but now I have photographed and can name on sight more than 100 species, from sunbirds to rollers to coucals to storks to bee-eaters to cranes to francolins to nightjars to secretary birds, and on and on. Your birds photos, particularly the fish eagle and the owl are magazine quality.

Ovenbird,

That fat little puppy is my favorite but is still looking for a home, as are three of his brothers and one of his sisters. Nine weeks old...anyone in Southern California interested? Free to good home!

Girlpolo,

Okay, I just sent you an invite.

I saw your pictures and really enjoyed the great lion shots, as well as the very expectant wild dog!

I don't know what is scarier, being on a Mekoro in the Delta and not seeing what is around you, or being on a canoe and SEEING the hundreds of surrounding hippos and crocs in the Zambezi River!

Excellent!
Was able to get in by logging in to ofoto and then pasting in the link provided.
Couldn't get the slideshow to work so viewed each image using the preview (which doesn't allow you to add comments) but just want to say thanks for taking the time to upload all of those and share them with us!
