airfare to Rwanda
Does anyone have suggestions on how to get reasonably priced airfare to Rwanda? I'd be traveling from Washington D.C. but could fly out of NYC too. I'm not finding anything cheaper than 2500, and the tour co's i'm looking at don't offer any assistance w/air.

I think the only European carrier that flies into Kigali is SN Brussels, and they have pretty good fares. When I visited Rwanda, I flew into Nairobi and then flew Air Kenya to Kigali. Or you can fly into Entebbe and take bus to Kigali.

thanks, will check that out.
question re kigali - I'm thinking of arriving a day before my tour starts to get back on a regular sleeping schedule, rather than stopping over in london, as I was just in london last yr. From the little I've read about Kigali, it doesn't sound like i'd have any problems as a single female traveler by myself and that I could wander around a bit solo. Do you think this is the case? Nairobi is the only city thus far I've ever been in where I would not have wandered around alone, but Kigali sounds nothing like Nairobi.

I have spent time in many African capitals, and I found Kigali a very safe city to wander around, at least the city center. I have wandered around Nairobi, and have attracted a lot of unwanted attention, but I was left alone as I walked through Kigali. I stayed at the Mille de Collins, and it has a good location and good services.

Call Ethiopian Airlines, ( 1 800-445 2733 )
they have direct from IAD to Addis Ababa and then about 7 and half hours layover at Addis Ababa before Kigali flight departs, it's easy as straight from Washington (IAD) into Addis, it should be cheap too.

The return Kigali to Washington has just a 2 hr stop at Addis to change flights. Leave Kiagi 5.10 pm arrive IAD next morning 9.55 a.m
I was interested to see what their website could offer so I put in some February dates and the fare came out as USD 1,489 return 'including' taxes !! I should give them a call.

Maxwell, do let us know how you get on with Ethiopian Airlines, it will be interesting as they have the direct flights from IAD, if you can get a cheap fare it will probably be of interest to others heading for Kenya/Tanzania etc.

Ethiopian Airlines sounds like the way to go. Flights from Nairobi to Kigali with Kenya Airways cost £269 (about $480), so if you can get a good deal on a flight to Nairobi that might be another option. I found that price on expedia.co.uk (for some reason expedia.com doesn't list the route).

We'll be travelling with OAT in July 2006, winding up in Johannesburg. We plan to fly to Nairobi for a week in Kenya and then on to Kigali. After encountering the gorillas (hopefully), we have to return to Johannesburg for our flight home. Any info. on flight costs, tips will be most appreciated.
