Roccco--Soweto Tour--Was it Good?

Dear Roccco and ScaredToDeath,

Did you enjoy your Soweto tour? Was it worth it? Do you recommend the exact tour guide you had? We will be in JNB only for one day so we were wondering if we should do it.

Can't wait to hear your full report. Thank you!

Owl,

I highly recomend the same tour guide that I used. Here is his information:

African Timeout
Johan Van Biljon
www.africantimeout.com
email: [email protected]

I would request a private tour, although we didn't and just lucked out.
Johan never rushed us and really showed us a lot and was very personable. We enjoyed lunch at Wandie's Place and saw all the usual places.

Good luck!

Thanks, Roccco! We have only a short time in JNB: 11:30 am-9am the next day, and then a 7 hour layover on the way back to the US from Lusaka. We're really interested in shopping for art in JNB and were wondering if the Soweto tour warrants the 3 1/2 hours it takes. Obviously the history of the township warrants it, but it's a question of the touring. We are not the type of people who would ever do a "sightseeing tour" of a city in the US. Any opinions?

Owl, if you're in JNB on a Sunday morning, try the market one block from the Grace Hotel, on Bath Street. Rooftop. Great shopping.
