Road from Port at Alexandria to Cairo, Egypt

I was thinking about booking a Mediterranean cruise with Egypt/Alexandria on the agenda. I have read that the road from the port of Alexandria to Cairo is 3 hours and one of the cruise lines, I think is was princess stated that the bus/buss would travel with police convoy, which kind of made me nervous, that it was needed. What kind of road is that 3 hour drive on? Is it like our interstates here is the USA or is it like a gravel country road. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you google "road from Alexandria to Cairo", the second item that comes up is a YouTube video that shows what type of road it is.

As for the police convoy, that is common between tourist destinations (we road in one from Aswan to Luxor). Once you get going, you don't even see the military vehicles, but they did search the cars in the convoy before we left Aswan.
