River Camp or Ilala Lodge - Victoria Falls

Trying to decide between Victoria Falls or Ilala Lodge. What do you think about staying on the Zimbabwe side? Or is Zambia better?
How long does it take to drive from River Club to the Falls? Is the trip on a set schedule or can you go when you want?
What we like about Ilala is being able to set our own time table.
What we like about River Camp is over looking the Hippos.
Would like to hear your pros and cons of each location.
Thanks - we are going in May - after 6 nights of Wilderness Camps in Botswana.

The Ilala Lodge is in Victoria Falls. Are you asking about the Victoria Falls Hotel? If it is the Victoria Falls Hotel - this is a stately lady of a hotel, built in the early 1900, and personally, kind of "stuffy" with lots of tour groups here. The Ilala is smaller. But either hotel are a short walk from one another. Both are on the Zimbabwe side of the Falls.

The River Club is on the Zambia side of the Falls. Seeing hippos in the water isn't a selling point for me. So I guess the choice of which side is up to you.

If you're on a private tour, the schedule is basically up to you. What did you have in mind that wouldn't meet your schedule? And how long are you going to be in the VFA area?
