Me too, and it's lunchtime in California.
|
We did have hard boiled eggs too. I forgot about those. And an assortment of fruit, slices of cake, and a juice drink, but no chocolate :( It would've been all melted anyway :p
|
Oh yes, it was melted... and yet still way better than the rotting meat :--))

I posted on the countdown to Africa thread.I'm making some last minute changes though and will repost when finalized. |
Just read your fantastic report.
I'm about to book up and had planned on 7 day stay at Maternwe beach in the new suites you mention. I think i'll try changing to 2 nights at Chumbe then 5 at Pongwe now though. Any general consensus on accomodation in Stone town. I too have to say I'm tempted to stick to it, and eat out. I don't suppose it was the Keep suite that you stayed in was it? Many thanks, Jules |
amfs,
I too forgot to say a BIG congratulations! Now then can you help in my honeymoon plans? I've tried changing my 7 "beach" nights to 2 on Chumbe and 5 on Pongwe instead of 7 at Maternwe beach in the Shamba suite. I can only get 2 middle nights at Chumbe however. This leaves me with the following options:- A. 3 nights at Pongwe, 2 at Chumbe, 2 at Pongwe. B. 3 nights at Pongwe, 2 at Chumbe, 2 at Maternwe. C. 7 at Pongwe D. 7 at Maternwe. It's R and R at the end of our honeymoon so I had planned on staying put in one place, but from your report on Chumbe it sounds like it's worth the trouble. I've listed my updated itinary (I'm praying final!) on my thread, grateful for any suggestions. Jules |
thanks for all the congrats
We always had in our lunchboxes: a boiled egg, cooked chicken, bread, cheese of some sort (sometimes dodgy!), a drink. If we were lucky we got biscuits or chocolate :o) jules73 - pongwe and chumbe are quite a distance from each other (an hour or so in a taxi as well as the chumbe boat which takes around an hour) The taxi would from one to the other would cost around 40 USD, but i think the chumbe boat fare is included in your chumbe stay. so I dont know how relaxing its going to be going from Pongwe to Chumbe, then back to Pongwe. If you are into snorkelling, ecotourism and good food i would definitely include chumbe. if you are into just lying in a hammock, reading a book and waiting for the next meal then i would just go to pongwe for 7 nights. If you find you get restless in one place after more than 2 days then maybe try the pongwe-chumbe-matemw combo. The snorkelling at chumbe is amazing, but if you are not into snorkelling you would probably get the same out of pongwe than you would out of chumbe. The beach at chumbe is nice but pongwe beach is that little bit nicer. You can also do intertidal and forest walks at chumbe which you cant at pongwe. so if you get bored lying on beaches all day, its good to have this. HTH! |
I want to thank you for the information, esp on Zanzibar. We are trying to get our arrangements made there and this info is great.
|
sorry, jules73 - forgot to say that it was the tour suite we stayed in at E&G.
The pavillion suite was beside us and i had a peek in when it was being cleaned and it was amazing!!! much nicer than ours. Only downside is that its open to the air (and noise of the mosques) so might get very sticky. our room had air con which came in handy. |
Hello, everybody! My name is Marina. We have booked our honeymoon at Zanzibar in Feb. WE'll stay in 2 hotels: Breezes and Pongwe. Do you think it's a good choice?
We would also like to go for a short, 3-day safari in Tanzania. Has anyone done that, or heard about people doing that? We haven't book anything for the safari yet, and are hoping to do that once at Zanzibar. You think it can be arranged from there? Thanks in advance for any piece of advice as to Zanzibar! Marina |
Hi there
it is a good idea to plan before you go that way you can do some research there is sooooo much information!! ps) congrats to amf |
Congratulations amfs!
I've had your trip report flagged for months and finally just had a second to read it. Thanks so much on the feedback from ATR and your time on the safari and in Zanzibar. My trip is in just a couple weeks, so I have no idea if we can request a specific guide or not, but I will definitely put in the request for Alex (and Edward) - thanks so much! Congrats and thanks again, BostonGal |
