Recomendations for Nairobi?

Hi, Im going to be in Nairbobi for 3 days before departing on a Safari. Can anyone recommend things to do? Place to stay? I would love a hotel with wildlife nearby if possible.
Thanks for your help.

Here's a list of some things to do in Nairobi - http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34581311

At the Giraffe Manor, I believe you can interact with the resident giraffe on the property. Off the top of my head, I can't recall what other properties have wildlife on site.

Shedrick Elephant Orphanage
Girraffe Centre in Karen
Karen Blixen Museum.
As much as you can eat ribs at Holiday Inn Spur Restaurant every Thursday.
Carnivore Restaurant. (and rock night at the attached nightclub!)
Ice Skating at the Panari Hotel.
Catch a play at Phoenix Theatre.
Karaoki at the Intercontinental
Live music at The Pavement Cafe.
A day in Nairobi National Park with lunch at Rangers.

Places to stay with wildlife... you could go to Lake Naivasha for a couple days? But it's a couple of hours away.

For peace and Quiet and lots of birds go to Ngong House to stay (but not cheap)

There are many things to do in Nairobi, but if you want animals nearby, than it's best to be in the suburb of Karen. Nearby is the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and Giraffe Center.

But most of the hotels in the area are costly, the Giraffe Manor as an example is over $300/single on HB basis; if a double than it's about $240/person on HB basis.

Other downtown hotels can be at least $100+ less, you can hire a vehicle/driver for time to visit animals. Even the Norfolk is cheaper by at $150/single but with Breakfast only.

Even if your hotel is near animals, you'll have to take a taxi or vehicle/driver to see all of these.

Using a downtown (city center) hotel - Intercontinental, Hilton, The Stanley, you can walk around during the day which is a whole lot easier done here then if you were out in Karen (a good 30-minutes away).

Is there a reason this has to be your question, or could it be "I have 3 free days after I land in Nairobi before I go on safari; what could I do?"

Depending on your budget, there really is a lot you could do in three days.

Thank you for those who responded. I have booked the Ngong House, followed by 3 days in Samburu Larsons... figured I was out there, might as well see as much as possible as our Safari doesnt go there.
Now that I am booked, I cant wait to go...

Glad we could help.
Would love to see the entire itinerary, including these additions. When will you be visiting, with a group or independently, with whom did you book your safari.

Seems nosey, but if you haven't figured out - we tell all here. And since you've posted and received answers you know we expected a trip report... and your photo link. LOL!
