Hi
Anthony was still Head Ranger when I was there in October. However I think he may be leaving at the end of December which would be a real shame as he is a fantastic Ranger and is passionate about what he does.
I hope he changes his mind.

Anthony was our ranger at the end of November. This is his last 8 week session as he has to leave in January to go back to his family cattle farm in Swaziland. He said it was a 3000 hectare cattle farm, and his dad was ready for him to come home and help run it. I think his girlfriend is also ready for him to come home and marry her!! He was outstanding as a guide and becoming a bit nostalgic about sightings as he knew his time was coming to an end. He will be missed I know!

Nice to have a ranger's, or ex-ranger's perspective. I hope I never drove any of my guides or rangers to the bottle.
You guys and gals have some great tales that always add to the safari enjoyment.

Hari-
When I was at Rattray's it seemed like the rangers stayed at their respective lodges, with the excepetion of Nils. Nils now does the ranger training, but fills in as lodge host when necessary at Rattray's. Kaye will probably have a better answer to that when she sees the question.
Our guides did eat with us, but everyone seemed to enjoy one another's company and we all moved around. There was one group that only cared about the number of sightings, and made it a competition amongst the group as to show saw the most. I did get the impression the guides do not like this as their goal is not to keep score, but provide everyone with great experiences. The guides are now using ear buds versus the hand-held radio which was nice for the limited chatter. A guest had suggested this idea, and at some point Mala Mala switched to this type of communication.
We loved our guides and trackers. Colin, our tracker, is a third generation tracker at Mala Mala and can find a leopard and lion cubs like no other.
I hope everyone has enjoyed a positive trip, I know we did.
