following is a link to Africa satellite photo, looks like Tanzania is getting a good soaking at last.

Also, rain is reported in Nairobi today.

Hope this is the beginning of the end of the drought in East Africa

Dave:

Only some parts of the country are getting it.

I heard from our friend at Satao and they haven't received any. Said Amboseli, Chyulu Hills and Tsavo West had gotten some - but none yet in Tsavo East

Got word from Satao this morning that they had had 9 mm. of rain and the elephants disappeared overnight!

It will be interesting to see if the heavy rains they've had around Nairobi fill the rivers so that the Voi will fill up. It was dry when I was there last month. Thank God I crossed the bridge at Lugards when I did. Wouldn't want to cross with water running over the top of the bridge and be washed down like the KWS rangers were. That was too tragic.

Just back from tz today. Stayed at Arusha, Tarangire, Ngorongoro, Serengeti Sopa, Lobo, Mbalageti, Manyara. The only place we didn't see rain was at Tarangire! Though I must say the Southern part of tarangire from Sopa southward was very lush & green.
Lobo & Western corridor very green with loads of wildies with young. Seronera was looking very dry till one hours rain at lunch time. Road to Ndutu from main Serengeti Nabi road green but Ndutu looking brown but wet & no wildies. On the way up to Serengeti saw loads of wildies heading south east. When we left the park six days later still loads of wildies heading South east. But large herds in the north & west. Confused, so were the wildebeest!
