Question about Mombo?

for the folks who have recently visited Mombo, can anyone rememeber the tent numbers that they stayed in? i am heading there in jan and wanted to request the 2 rooms immediately to the left of the main lounge area (left if you are facing out to the floodplain). i think they are #6 and 7 but i cant remember for sure. any help would be appreciated. thx

Not an entirely useful response but... it might help. Number 9 is the tent right down by Little Mombo - past the gift shop. Does that help in terms of number direction?

My agent was great when we had seemingly inconsequential (but important to us) requests like this and she would simply pass any questions and requests on to Wilderness Safaris for us and they would come back with the response or agreement to do whatever it was.

I'm sure if you can explain the position of the two rooms you want that they will understand even without numbers. That said they may not guarantee those rooms if they have already promised them or sometimes it might mean revising their entire booking grid. I don't know how Mombo do it but in many hotels individual bookings are slotted into individual rooms quite early - that way it's easier to maximise the occupancy. Otherwise it's too easy to end up with dogleg nights in individual rooms between visitors. I am probably making no sense and just rambling anyway but... would advise to just describe the location of the rooms and have the agent put in a request sooner rather than later.

BEST OF LUCK!

thax for that kavey, i will call my agent. and yes that direction is correct with little mombo being no.9. im pretty sure that 6 and 7 are the ones im looking for given taht you were in number 9. i knew it was either 5 and 6 or 6 and 7 and given that liitle mombo is 9, the latter is more likely to be correct as i had thought.

I wasn't in 9 - I stayed at Little Mombo!

Draw a map if you have to and have the agent fax it - whatever is clearest!

I am probably too late, but you are asking about tents 6 and 7. 5 and 6 are on the other side of the main area.

Just returned from Mombo...incredible.

hey hoodwinkers,
i am going in jan so we still have time. so cabin 7 and 8 are the first 2 next to the pool? ie if you are looking out on the floodplain, u would walk toward little mombo and 7 and 8 would be the first 2 tents?
also what all did you see? i heard they have seen wild dogs lately in the area. thx in advance.

Hey Bigcountry. Im 95% positive that those tents are 7 & 8...as 5 & 6 are on the other side. Tent 7 I think is right behind the pool. Play it safe and request the tent behind the pool.

Mombo was unbelievable...and yes the dogs are kinda back. In fact, I was the one who spotted them for the first time and many weeks. My guide was so excited. I said, "what is that under that tree?", and he replied "whoa, those are wild dogs!!" Later that day we saw another part of the pack right near the camp.

We saw so much, but no kill (bad luck). One of the prides just had 4 cubs and # more were just born (we could hear them, but couldnt count).

I am hoping to write up a big travelogue (went to Duba Plains and Jao too) and post the link on Fodors...but am pretty busy these days. I am a serious photographer too, so I have some pretty amazing pics to share as well. Feel free to email me with any questions you may [email protected]

Great to hear that wild dogs are back in the Mombo area. We were there in June and, as indicated, there had been no sign of them... excellent news about their return.

We were happy to see some of the rhinos released in the recent reintroduction project - I hear the first baby has been born this year!
