Public campsites. Northern Circuit.

Can anybody share their experiences with regard to the Public Campsites in Ngorongoro/Serengeti areas? I last stayed at the Simba Public Campsite and Seronera Public Campsites: at the time we were there not overly crowded and thanks to our crew we were well fed and looked after. (bar the lack of shower facilities) I'm not really up for staying in lodges, due to cost factors and wanting to be out there in the thick of it at night. In camp we encountered elephants buffalo and hyenas, (Simba) and hyena and antelope (seronera). Are there any particular favourites? Better than those mentioned? Esp in the SNP Central/North. Or is it worth paying a little more and going to the special campsites?

Slowly starting to plan for later this year.

Matt - can't advise re public sites in the North, where I believe there are few, if any... however, 'special' campsites don't charge all that more per day. And, at least you'll get hot water for showers and a loo just for your group. Ask for prices to compare.

Sandi, this thread is 6 years old and Matt doesn't hang out here any more. Must have been the deleted comments which brought this to the top!
