prvt mobile camps in Lake Nakuru

Am trying to stay away from the 2 lodges at Lake Nakuru. Any suggestions? Any outfitters have private mobile camps?

laslaff..... I know both the lodges are ok.... but in nakuru I would suggest a lodge for one night... keeping into consideration the high rhino population they have.... also never heard of a mobile camp at nakuru, maybe other fodorites could help you there....Sonali

There is a very nice campsite at the South end of the park called Makalia Falls. Find an operator that camps there. 1st time I was there, came in from the wrong direction, crossing the dam with a inch or 2 to spare on both sides of the tires(narrow base landy). Decided this was the place to be, so I camped near the water across from the falls. Great site. Next AM found the campsite just over the hill.

Few tourists and lots of wildlife at the southern part of the park- including rhinos.

How about Flamingo Hill Camp? I' never been there but friends recommended the camp. Seems to be nice...

Flamingo Hill is a lovely camp, but some have complained a bit too close to town. Night noises tend to travel and spoil the peacefulness one expects. But,this might have been a single incident and not a regular occurence.

There is a big open-air nightclub right at the edge of the Lake Nakuru park - on the town side. Could the noise from there have been carried on the wind (more likely if the camp is north or west since the park is really quite small)?

My view is that Lake Nakuru is great for spotting certain animals and birds and you'll get some fantastic photos, but it is not the place to go for a feeling of wilderness. I would try to avoid weekenda, public holidays or high season. Luangwablondes' idea sounds about right.
