Protecting My Camera In Italy Prior To Zambia Arrival...
I am somewhat concerned about carrying my camera around with me in Italy due to the high amount of petty theft in major European cities.
Honestly, I don't care if I don't take many photographs in Italy. This is my third visit and it is not like a couple million other people will not be visiting Italy this year.
It would be a major catastrophe if I were to get my camera stolen because I insisted on taking it everywhere with me in Italy.
So, would I be better off just keeping it in the hotel's safe or possibly better off keeping it at the London Heathrow Airport in storage? On my way over to Italy, I fly into London then connect to Rome. On my way to Lusaka, I fly from Rome to London.
It's pretty sad that I fear Europe more than I do Africa, but I think these fears are well founded. While I have never been victimized before in Europe, due to the special circumstances of travelling to Zambia, afterward, on a PHOTO safari, I wish to be especially cautious.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Roccco - If you still own a 35mm w/zoom, take that along with a few rolls of film for use in Italy. Store your digital with all of it's "stuff" in the hotel safe at Reception (not the one in your room), along with your airline tickets and passport, extra credit cards and other important papers not needed when you tour around Italy. To me that would be your safest bet.
