Problem with the search function? Please help editor

When a post came up with respect to Sayari Camp in Serengeti, I was going to refer the post-er to my recent trip report (in which I wrote extensively about Sayari). I then noticed that if you search for "Sayari", my recent trip report doesn't even come up. For that matter, when I search for "Safaridude", not all my previous posts come up.

Is there a trick to the search function? It just appears to do an incomplete job...

Safaridude,

The search function doesn't work very well, especially for recent posts.

You might try to click on your name at the top of the screen. That will bring up your posts, and if you scroll down you can find your trip report.

I just tried it and here's your trip report:

There was a recent post on how out-of-date and cumbersome the forum's software is. You're not alone!

The forum is very simple and basic. Most functions you'd find in almost any other forum are lacking here, but the forum content is mostly very good.

You can only search on content, not on members.

Once you post something you can't go back and edit it either.

The search function hasn't been working for recent (a few months) posts. You can either click on your own screen name as mentioned earlier to find all of your previous posts or try advanced search in google inputting fodors.com/forums as the domain to search.

Let's cut to the chase. The Search functionality, as well as most technical aspects of this forum, is quite poor.

viva la revolution!

CW, very interesting. I tried "Sayari" and also my screen name "Safaridude". Neither searches got me to the post you were able to find.

I guess that proves that the search function is not very reliable.

Other forums have much better search functionality.

But this forum has the best content.

Vive le Fodor's!

Safaridude,

Click on you screen name at the top of the forum screen (next to profile) or on your screen name in any thread, and all the threads you've begun or to which you've contributed, will appear on the left.

I've been trying to top my report and it won't come up - most annoying.

As for having all your threads come up by clicking on your name - sometimes all will come up but mostly it will skip most.

Yes, it's a free site but it works both ways - Fodor's gets some pretty decent info. from us, so please give us some easily installed upgrading.

We are currently overhauling the search and should have something new later this fall.

In regards to other technical aspects of the site, good things are to come---including new and improved technology.

Thanks for your patience as always---I know that it can be trying sometimes to find things here. We definitely want to make it more user-friendly.

I just tried to search a couple topics I couldn't pull up previously...and VOILA there they were.
Could it be that the search function is improving some already???? :D

I just searched for "search function" and this one was top of the list.
