Going to South Africa in November. Can anyone help with a good Hotel.

Do you specifically want a hotel, or are you open to staying at a B&B?

PE has a number of hotels, and I've stayed in most of them! All the hotels are close to the airport - but then everything in PE is ...

Beach Hotel - privately owned, very good, best location to nightlife and beach, excellent breakfasts, comfortable rooms
Marine - used to be an apartment block so the rooms are massive, a bit older and so some elements looking shabby, further out from the rest, have breakfast somewhere else
Edward - downtown, not recommended if you want to be close to the beach, old historic building and old world style, they were very good about organising hot chocolate for us after we returned from a very late night
City Lodge/Holiday Inn Garden Court - functional chain hotels, quite adequate but no real extra facilities (no bar or restaurant), HIGC is a block back from the waterfront but you need to travel along a bit to get to a beach, City Lodge is across the road from the beach
Courtyard Suites - luxurious, all suite rooms, stunning setting, love the bathrooms, across the road from the beach, excellent breakfasts, no other restaurant facilities, very comfortable bar area, good service, close to restaurants
Town Lodge - even more basic version of the City Lodge but quite serviceable, fine for a short one night stay

I can vouch for the Courtyard Suites hotel in Port Elizabeth personally. We stayed there a couple of years ago, and found it a good hotel.

The rooms themselves aren't "suites" in the sense of the Plaza Hotel in NYC obviously, but are more akin to an Embassy Suites hotel in the US. The breakfast is especially good, essentially a buffet with someone there making omelettes, waffles, etc. Again, like the breakfast room at an Embassy Suites hotel.

The security is good, with the parking area enclosed by a high fence, and also security guards posted there.

There is a smallish casino behind the hotel, but not directly connected to it, including a shopping arcade with fast food take out places.

The property has a small pool in front, which we didn't utilize since the beach was merely a few steps down and across the road below the hotel.

The Indian Ocean was pretty nice (in January at least), yet the most spectacular thing was there was absolutely NOTHING but sand as far out as you could walk. I'm talking, no shells, no slippery/squishy things. NOTHING, but soft sand in the water.

However the winds that blew directly onshore were strong enough to "pepper" my skin with stinging sand. Oh well, can't have it all, I guess.
