Accomodation in Stellenbosch town under 500R pp

Hi All,

We are looking for a place to stay in Stellenbosch that we can walk to restaurants at night from. Last year we stayed at Cathbert, which we really liked, but it would be nice not to have to drive every evening to dinner.

I have a quote from River Manor for:
SUPERIOR R 950.00 per person sharing B & B CLASSIC R 650.00 per person sharing B & B PETIT R 450.00 per person sharing

I would prefer to spend around 450pp max, but am afraid this "petit" room is going to be like a closet after having our own cottage at Cathbert. Any suggestions? Oh, and this trip is in October, so high season rates apply.

Thanks,
Melissa

Melissaom,

Firstly it truly is great to see that you are returning to our wonderful shores. Something must have worked last year when you visited us.

In terms of accommodation may I suggest that you try "The Avenues" in Stellenbosch. http://www.sun.ac.za/unesco/Conferen...on/Avenues.htm

The guesthouse is about 200 yards from River Manor, is clean, well located, nicely furnished with has very friendly hosts. Most important is the fact that the guesthouse is very well priced and represents excellent value for money. As you have already realised it is not Cathbert but then there is nothing wrong with The Avenues overall and I am sure that it will suit your needs very well.

In addition to ArthusSA's excellent list of accommodation websites add the bible of accommodation in SA viz "The Portfolio Collection" which can be found at http://www.portfoliocollection.co.za/

Hope this all helps.

Very proudly part of the wonderful nation of South Africa

Thanks Selwyn,

We have definitely caught the Africa "Bug". It is hard to plan a trip that matches last year's though!
I did find a place in town called Huis Van Riebeeck Self Catering Apartment, which looks very nice, although I am looking at it for its looks, not because I want to self cater. Do you know it?

I was just looking at the West Coast of your beautiful country and was thinking that a short stay at Kersefontein guest house could be interesting.

Can't think why I didn't think of the Portfolio Collection, suggested by Selwyn. I have it bookmarked, whereas those other links I got from a quick local web search. Too obvious I guess!

That reminds me though, IMO the best SA search engine by far is Aardvark (www.aardvark.co.za/search/), althou. Not as popular as Ananzi (www.ananzi.co.za) but far better. It uses Google for both its default African option and its Global option. The former will give you less hits, but more focussed.

(Apologies for the double post, I must have hit "post" while still correcting a typo.)

We're staying at the Avenues on the last "leg" of our upcoming trip (after the Botswana safari). My friend "Peep" stayed there earlier this year on Selwyn's rec and Neville & Wilma sound to be wonderful hosts.
