polarized Sunglass ?
 

Hello,

My wife and I will be going to Kenya/Tanzania safari middle of July. (Two weeks) I have seen suggestions in some books that it is recommended to get sunglasses. Interestingly though, some suggest they should be Circularly Polarized as it enhances chances of seeing well camouflaged game.

Anyone have tried these types of sun glass and if so, would you recommend them over normal sunglass ?

P.S. Btw, the reason given to using circularly polarized glass comes from the fact that Camera Lenses can be fitted with CPL and is supposed help differentiate camouflaged Leopard from the tree from a distance.

This seems very silly to me. Your guide (and tracker, if there is one) will be infinitely better at spotting animals than you will be -- even if you have some fancy pair of sunglasses. Spotting wildlife, getting close to it, and pointing it out to you is their job, so sit back and relax and let them do their job.

What LAX says is certainly true. In addition, I think for both linear and circular polarizers:

Pros:
Reduce glare, especially of water, wet, or metallic surfaces. Also can reduce reflections in glass.
Increase contrast, for example between clouds and sky.

Con:
Can be difficult or impossible to see camera or phone screens.

I like the benefits so I use polarized glasses with a Croakies retainer so I can just let them hang when using electronics.
