plug in adaptors

We purchased a simple adaptor that plugs into the S.A. outlet and then we plug our American appliance into it. I thought this was fine, but a friend thought we needed a "converter kit" to ensure that the voltage is brought down to the appropriate level. Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks,

David

I believe your friend was correct. It isn't justa matter of having the right plug configuration, it's also a matter of adapting the actuall voltage, typically you will need the actual plug, then a converter box, into which you would plug your appliances. If you just have the plug adaptor, it won't work. You can by complete kits, or just the voltage converter box at any travel store.
