PLEEEZE HELP!! VISA ISSUE

Hello, fellow travel enthusiasts,

We will be embarking on a safari to Tanzania in November. We will fly into Kenya, stay a night there and then head for Tanzania. When our safari in Tanzania is over, we will return to Kenya, spend 1 night there, and catch our flight back to the US.

(1) Do we need 2 separate visas (Kenyan and Tanzanian)?

(2) Is it possible to get a Tanzanian visa and apply for a Kenyan transit visa? Or vice versa?

Please advise. Your assistance is greatly appreciated! Many thanks

Yep, you need seperate visas for both Kenya and Tanzania. Good thing is, they are available for you on arrival.

As of right now, yes you need visas for both countries. There's talk of a single East African visa but that's not official and I wouldn't hold my breath.

For Kenya, you can either get 2 transit visas for $20 each (one for each overnight) or a 90 day visa for $50 that allows re-entry from Tanzania within the validity of the visa.

For Tanzania, you would just get the regular $50 visa.

Need visas for both. Best to go with regular $50 visa for Kenya, then try for two $20 transits. You may have a problem with that last overnight in NBO. For the difference of $10, be safe.

For Tanzania, it's $50.

You can get both on arrival at Nairobi and then in Tanzania at JRO.

Thank you all for your responses.

My husband and I are planning to get 2 $50 visas for Tanzania and apply for transit visas to leave and reenter Kenya.

(1) with regard to the transit visas, do we each need 2 transit visas per person (1 transit visa to leave kenya and 1 transit visa to reenter Kenya?)

(2) I was reviewing the Kenyan visa application and it does not give an option to request more than 1 transit visa.

Please advise. Again thanks for your help!

Yes, you'd need two transit visas each if you're overnighting both directions, so 2 x $20 = $40. You'd get your first one arrival at NBO airport and second one on the way back, 2 separate applications. Or you can just get one $50 single entry the first time. Difference is $10 per person, it's up to you.
