S. African newbie
Planning our first visit to Africa and will be going to the Zulu Nyala game reserve in So.Africa. Any recommendations regarding time of year, great side trips, security precautions, what to (and not to) bring would be greatly appreciated

You will have a wonderful time in S. Africa! I haven't been to that camp so run a search for it here and see if you learn anything. Also seach for your other questions for some quick answers. I was in S. Africa recently and security was not an issue.

Hi Labard
First - looking forward to welcoming you to SA, but second: where did you find Zulu Nyala? The only Zulu Nyala I know of is a conference venue in Fourways - a suburb of Johannesburg. I had a look through two safari lodge books and cannot find a reference to another Zulu Nyala (lodge or reserve)anywhere. The venue I know is an excellent conference spot, very quiet and good facilities but the game viewing on offer begins and ends with some zebra in a paddock and a few impalas in a field. Not really what I think you would want.
If there is another venue of the same name, please post the details.
Regards

Traci,
Thanks for the message!! We actually got this trip at a Humane Society Auction. The facility you mentioned in Johannesburg is affiliated.. we fly from there to Richards Bay to go to the game reserve. The promotional materials list is as a private game reserve close to Unfolozi/Hluhlawe. Most fervently hoping to see more than some caged Zebras!
Looking forward to seeing (at least part of) your country.
