Petra
Is there an easy way to take trip from Tel Aviv to Petra and return the same day? Or I will doing too much in one day? We are active "seniors".
This will be in August and we know it's beastly hot but this is probably our only chance to ever see Petra. |
The only possible way to do Tel Aviv - Petra and back in one day is to take the earliest flight possible in the morning to Eilat, cross the border, visit Petra, come back and then fly back to Tel Aviv.
This will be an exceptionally long and tiring day. As you noted, it will be unbelievably hot and you will not be able to get there early enough to get even a bit of the less hot hours (can't really say cooler). You will hit all the hottest hours and it is very. If you want to go this route, you can do the yourself or sign up with some of the tour companies that offer this option. |
Too far to easily do in a day overnite in Eilat
many great hotels there booking.com go out in the cool of the AM the next day for best experience especially in August. Personally might pick up Masada and Dead Sea resorts if time truly amazing. affordabletours.com viator.com other good info for you. Happy Travels! |
It's a long trip . Can you leave from Eilat? The drive from the Jordanian border to Petra is a couple of hours. Petra gets very hot in the later part of the afternoon. We would leave then and go back to ther hotel. We bought a multi day ticket for Petra. we were in Petra in late sept. so I can imagine what August must be like. A tour from eilat is probably your best bet. We traveled by taxi from the border to petra, but we stayed fro 3 nights. Enjoy your trip, Petra is very exciting to see.

Petra is more than just the Treasury that you see in all the pictures. I spent two days there and could easily have spent longer - and that wasn't in August, when you should be taking a siesta. I would save it for when you can plan a proper visit to Jordan - as alan43 says, there are other things worth seeing there.

We were in Jordan and Petra in December and thought that it was extremely warm.We spent two nights down there and spent an entire day walking around-it is definitely NOT a daytrip!
