Sorry - in my attempts to be clever I forgot my manners. Thank you so much for the research and the link. I really do think I'll be OK. I'll check my larger duffel, half of my photo gear, and the rest will come with me! This will def. give me less time in London, but the key is for me to walk around, get the blood circulating, stay awake, and finally meet Julian!

Rocco would hire a private car and driver into London and have him wait while eating lunch...I think that's what he did anyway!

Yeah, right!

Yes, I did hire a private car and driver to take me to Chinatown (of all places!). That was the most expensive Chinese food that I have ever eaten, after factoring in the car & driver. There was just no way that I was going to be able to bring all of my luggage on "the tube" and I knew I would not be able to check in my luggage on SAA until 4 hours before the flight.

WWRDIHCDIOA (What would Rocco do if he could do it over again?)

I would have paid for a rental car for Julian and Kavey and had them come fetch me at the airport, and with the cost savings we could have went to eat at the most fabulous place and I would have still had some money leftover!

I'm dying to know all the gritty details about what you did with your luggage and if the KQ counter was open at that hour. And did you leave NBO at all on your return?

HA! I had forgotten about this. I did check my bag all the way to Lusaka! It worked fine both coming and going. I've been incredibly lucky with my luggage. I did not leave Jomo Kenyatta on the return. I was very tired. (And loaded down with bottles of Amarula for gifts)

I had an interminable layover in Nairobi during which the electricity went out twice. I will take the long SAA flight next time around! Thanks for asking!
