Papyrus (Real) How much?
I have read that most of the papyrus you see is really banana leaves. Just wondering where you can find real papyrus and is it expensive? What is the test to see if its real?

jeepsterchick -
Yes you will find inexpensive papyrus being sold at most tourist sites. These are made of banana leaves sold in plastic sleeves with lots of gold on them - priced 5 or 10 for some ridiculously cheap price. But we found a great shop in the Khan El Khalili Bazaar that sells the real stuff. We spent a few hours there selecting a number of pieces of different sizes and yet the prices were quite reasonable. It's the framing, once you get home that will set you back. Finding this shop, however, was a fluke for us, but I have their business card with map on how to locate the place. I have your email address, so I'll send the information there. |
Thank you so much for all the info - Sandi, I haven't seen an email as of yet! - Looking forward to it! PERFECT!!!

Check out Dr. Ragab's Papyrus Institute in Cairo. It's the real deal.
