Palace of the Lost City

My husband and I are traveling to Southern Africa at the end of June. We will be doing 3 nights Cape Town (Cape Grace) 2 nights Victoria Falls hotel, 3 nights Savuti, 3 nights-Kwetsani and 3 nights in Mombo. We have 1 extra night before flying home from Johansburg. We both love to gamble and are thinking of trying to go to Palace of the Lost City. I know that it is about 2 hours away from j-burg. I would love comments from people who have been to there and what they thought.

I've been to Sun City a couple of times, and stayed in the Palace of the Lost City once, about 10 years ago. The Lost City is everything you'd expect from the publicity -- a perfectly executed fantasy land. It's all so fabulously fake -- you can believe you're in a Rider Haggard novel. If you're in the mood for that sort of thing, it's great. If you're not, it's just a lot of ostentation. I liked it, because I was in the mood for unreality. The food, in any case, was absolutely exquisite, as was the service.

Sun City in general is a lot like Las Vegas. If you don't want the fantasy of the Lost City, you can now gamble at places closer to Johannesburg, such as Ceasar's Gauteng. I haven't been there, so can't comment.
