Painting of lions in Okavango Delta
After purchasing a memory card for my June trip to Botswana and Zambia, I walked by an art gallery and was overwhelmed by the stunning painting of a male lion surrounded by several cubs. I was so emotionally affected by the painting that I had to find out more. It is by wildlife artist Carl Brenders and he painted it after a trip to the Okavango Delta. It is called "The Babysitter." I was not in the market for a new painting, but I knew I just had to have it and it now hangs in my family room. Just another example of how Africa can affect some of us and I haven't even gone there yet! I hope to find out where in the Delta he saw this scene.

Did you buy a print or the original itself? It's very beautiful.
I too just bought a painting I fell in love with - a very high quality print (on textured paper) of an original by a friend of mine, Mara McGregor.
She was on the Kenya safari with me back in 2004 and we were both at a wonderful siting of a cheetah made famous in Big Cat Diary, Kike who was with her three grown up cubs when we saw her.
Mara's painting is so absolutely perfect that, given my presence at the original scene, I HAD to get a print.
The print is the same size as the original and just stunning.
It's at the framer's at the moment - there is one just opposite our house.
Can't wait to get it back - it's going to get pride of place in the living room above the mantel piece.

kavey, I purchased a limited edition print on giclee canvas. Done on canvas this way it looks like an original and is larger in size. Framed it measures 37"X49". You have to see it to appreciate how beautiful it is. Looking at it makes we want to go to Africa now, but I have 45 more days to wait.

Kavey, That is so meaningful - imagine being able to buy a print of a scene that you have witnessed! I'm sure we'd all love to see it once it's back from the framer's! Does your friend have a website?

No she doesn't... she's in her 80s and a very well known portrait and equine artist above all - she's painted most of the royal family (excepting the youngest generation) more than once and also many many horses and riders.
These days she's into wildlife.

raelond,
That's a stunning picture. I'm curious how you framed it. I'd love to hear how well it looks once it's up on the wall.
Once I finish my school final project and graduate ughh, I'd like to try to replicate some of my African photos using oils - I'm excited and intimidated that my pics. will be out of context and not hold the same appeal as when surrounded by Africa - as some of the shots I'd like to replicate are extremely vibrant in color. The warm light in Africa is perfect. A picture like yours however, will seem properly placed anywhere in the world in any type of lighting etc. Hope I'm making sense.
Anyhow, enjoy your lovely find.
