Painted/WildDogs at Tarangire

I didn' see them, but did just see photos from a friend of a friend who just returned. Yup, there they were, real beauties, great color and in good condition - in Tarangire. Who would have thunk!

Except for the fact that their guide was as surprised as they; guide having seen some in the Serengeti, I have no further information. Just something for those visiting at Tarangire to be on the watch for.

My first thought, considering these packs travel/cover great distances - if some months they were seen in the Serengeti (could have been anywhere here) and recently in Tarangire... they may next be seen in Selous! You never know, but keep your eyes out for the rarely seen species in this part of Africa.

They are seen in Selous way more often than Tarangire or Serengeti!!!! They are there at Selous, but since we don't have access to the entire ecosystem (the hunters have huge hunting blocks), it is hard to track them down and get a viewing very often.

Hello,

The list of animals to keep my eyes peeled for on my October trip is growing - first fringe-eared oryx and now wild dogs!

There are large wild dog populations in Selous and Ruaha, so I certainly hope to catch a glimpse of them on my trip to Southern Tanzania next year.

Cheers,
Julian
