Our hectic trek up Kilimanjaro and animal-filled safari in Tanzania!

Its been a couple of days since 4 of us completed our 14 day trip to Tanzania, and I'm going to hurriedly type out all the details before I forget

Highlights: 6 day trek and a successful Kilimanjaro summit, and 6 days across 4 national parks in Tanzania - Terengire, Serengeti, Lake Manyara and Ngorogoro Crater.

Company used: Tro-Peaks adventures, based out of Moshi, Tanzania [highly recommended by all of us!!]

Little about us: 4 of us (2 girls and 2 guys) are in our mid twenties, fairly active (running and swimming) and very excited about our once-in-a-lifetime trip!

Day 1: Relaxing in Moshi and preparing for the Trek

We flew into Kilimanjaro and were picked up by Tro-Peaks, who took us to our hotel - Key's Annexe in Moshi. The hotel has a beautiful view, and very basic but functional rooms. After quickly checking in, we met our guides Aloyce and Ramson who quickly walked us through our itinerary for the climb.

What i found most useful was Aloyce and Ramson insisted on going through all our clothing and equipment, to ensure that we had carried everything we needed (and nothing extra), and drove us to Nakumatt (the local supermarket) to buy what we did not have. After finishing our shopping, we had an early dinner at the Kilimanjaro Coffee Lounge (right across the road from Nakumatt) - this is a chilled out place with excellent coffee, outdoor seating and great burgers.

Day 2 was going to be super early, so we tucked in early. Thankfully no mosquitos!

Day 2: Hike up from Machame Gate to Machame Camp: 1800m to 3000m, in roughly 4 hours.

We left the hotel at 8 am, and reached Machame gate in an hour or two. The wait at the gate to finish registration was quite long, and by the time we got to start walking, it was already noon!

The first day of the trek was full of green trees and level paths. While it was slightly uphill, it wasn't very tiring, and we spent the whole time chatting and enjoying the wilderness. Our day packs steadily got lighter as we finished our mandated 3 litres of water (so heavy!), and we reached our campsite slightly tired but very excited for our first night in our tents!

The campsite was picturesque - beautiful green trees, the setting sun, and a tucked-in corner away from the rest of the crowds. Our first meal came with a pleasant surprise - we had a separate "dining tent", complete with folding table, folding chairs and tea/coffee/milo and every condiment possible! We certainly werent expecting this sort of luxury

Early night in (this was the trend for the entire trip), since we would be up at 6 am to start our next day!
