Okapi documented in Virunga N.P. with a photo

It is good to see new discoveries despite years of fighting. I hope one day the tremendous diversity of the DRC can be experienced safely.

Thanks for posting this, PB (I was just getting ready to do the same).

Any little glimmer of good news from the DRC is worth being thankful for.

Wow, I have done some research into visiting the Okapi Wildlife Reserve in the DRC (its a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and its very difficult to visit independently, especially if one expects a modicum of comfort. I hope to get to Virunga in the next few years, and will re-research the Okapi Reserve, but maybe by then it will be easier to see them in Virunga.

PS -- The two best okapi zoo exhibits I've seen are at the Bronx Zoo (my hometown zoo) and the Antwerp Zoo, with its great art nouveau building (lots of exhibits of animals from the former Belgian Congo).
