I just followed the directions as provided on the Air France Web Site for a flight that I have on 4 Sept from AMS to CPT. It allowed me to select an available seat but then at the end of the process when I selected confirmed it cambe back with a message of "On Hold". Is this normal and waiting to update or does it mean that I've not accomplished anything? I've tried several times to contact KLM and NWA regarding seat assignments to no avail and when I saw this posting I got very excited about the possibility. Thoughts?

memjewels,

I think it just means your seat is on hold. Mine said that too and they were booked directly with KLM and not on the web site.

P.S. Go to NWA.com and type in your booking code with them and see if the seat numbers you selected have popped in there yet.

As always, Patty has a great idea! Reading this thread reminded me that I hadn't booked my seat for my return flight from DAR to AMS. I didn't have my KLM confirmation number, so I entered my NWA number on the Air France website. It didn't find the reservation, of course, but it did give me the new option of using my ticket number, which I did have. I then proceeded to book my seat and also jot down my KLM record locator number, which was now showing. I went to the NWA website and the seat I booked is showing up in that record.

Just checked the NWA website and it still shows my original seats which I had to get a rep at NW to assign in the back as they indicated that nothing better was available even though I have friends in the travel industry who could look in Sabre and see seats there. I'm hoping that the seats I selected on Air France will show up as I was able to get a bulkhead row on both segments which come in handy for my heighth. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Does anybody's KL seat assignments show up as "confirmed" on airfrance.us or does everybody's show up as "on hold"?

Can those of you who selected seats/have seat assignments go to www.checkmytrip.com and enter your KL locator and see if your seat assignments show up there with a green check mark next to them? You need to click on the "view details" link below your flights to see seat assignments on checkmytrip.

Just checked "checkmytrip.com" and it shows the seats that I selected on Air France but they do not have the green check mark by them at this point. It has been a bit more than 12 hours since I made the selection.

Mine now say "confirmed" but it took well over 24 hours to see that show up.

AFAIK you can only select seats on the Cathay Pacific website during the initial booking process or during online check-in and to be able to see your reservation on their website at any other time, you need to have your Asiamiles number attached to it, but I could be wrong. I have an upcoming CX flight this week and can't pull it up on the CX website because I have my AA number attached to the reservation. I don't think I can online check-in either because I have an AA issued ticket with an AA coded flight. AA assigned my seats for me (over the phone) and I did call CX to verify them.

I was wrong earlier about not being able to check-in online. I just entered the CX number for my Tuesday flight and it worked fine. You can change/select your seat as well as enter/change your FF number during the process. Prior that though, I think you'll just have to call.

Have a good trip.

Thank you Patty!

I was able to select my seats via the Airfrance link provided. I did it lastnight and it's showing as confirmed there and also on Orbitz.

I finally got to try out my own work around today and it seems to work for KQ seats as well. After selecting my seats, they momentarily showed up as "on hold" before changing to "confirmed" on the AF site. They also show up as confirmed on checkmytrip and when I look at the seat maps for my flights on ExpertFlyer, the seats I chose which were formerly available now show as occupied so I guess that's about as much confirmation as I can possibly get

Just to follow up on our Feb trip. After I had got to the point of seeing our seats as "confirmed" they then went on & changed a few times between then & departure. Sometimes not having our seats next to each other & at one point having us sitting in the same seat! In the end our outbound seats were what I had managed to get confirmed but our JRO-AMS seats were not. We were fine we got to sit next to each other but a lot of people seemed to be separated from their travel partners!! So do what you can but be prepared!! Have a wonderful trip. J

Thanks, jules! KQ changed our seats last year too after I'd reserved directly over the phone with them. When I questioned it, they put us back in our original seats so I have no idea why they moved us in the first place! This was on our flight to SEZ. Of course, our CDG flights got canceled so we'll never know if they would've done the same on those So far, we've had good luck with KL not moving us.

Patty it was the first time we have had KLM change us but then I also realised it is the first time we had actually flown out of JRO. On previous trips we had gone to Rwanda & Kenya after Tanz & flown back to AMS from NBO so don't know if that was a difference. J
