I agree with Leely. You like the itinerary, you're comfortable with the price and you like who you're dealing with -- go for it! I'm sure you'll have a great trip.

Rocco - The Grumeti Reserve properties were mentioned some months back (believe in Nov), you just seemed to have missed it. No, they are not located anywhere near Seronera, rather outside the Western Serengeti on 400,000 acres of private lands, previously hunting grounds. They have their own airstrip for private charter flight, for now or maybe forever. There are three properties here as Eben's site shows. Don't believe Faru Faru is open yet, but may be. All are very expensive, but they are South African/Zimbabwean owned and it seems as though a "taste of SA" has arrived. As of now, their Sabora camp, which has been open about 2-yrs, is the least expensive at $850/pp/nt all inclusive. The other, Sasaskwa at $1500/pp/nt (higher even than Singita). Being West, they may catch the Migration on their way to Kenya; then they may not. But there is more than game drives available here - tennis, anyone?; horseback riding, a/c tents; plunge pools... you've got the picture. You're just going to have to return to Tanzania. |

As they say "different strokes....." For as many who would only consider budget and quibble over $50; as many have no problem handing over $800+/nt/pp. Not unlike anyone who chooses to travel anywhere. We have choices! |

The $850 pppn is the rack rate for the game drive package, right? Kirawira lists the same rack rate on their website, so it's not out of line with similar properties in the area.

Thanks for your feedback everyone. Hey, Eben, where was the pic taken??? It looks like a sheik's palace! It must have cost a fortune.
We're going to have "luxury private camping" which means that we have our own tent with an "en-suite bath" (ie separated by a zipper from the sleeping part). People say it's the best part of the safari. I've heard that you can hear the lions roaring at night and they're right outside the tent (eeek! cool and scarey and the same time!) As long as I don't have to outside at night, I'm a happy camper! |

I finally managed to get a look at the Sabora pics on Eben's website (thanks Leely!). The accommodations look lovely, but if you look at the camp picture (no. 1) they seem awfully close together -- I think I'd want a bit more privacy than that. Cheers, Julian |
