North African Tips for a First Timer

Hi guys,

Excuse my ignorance I am just starting my research journey! My partner and I have 5 weeks to explore North Africa in September/October 2017 from Australia.

I am after tips on MUST SEE cities and natural attractions, hidden gems and amazing food experiences. I have barely scratched the surface with my own research, but looking for starting points and direction.

Any advice on best routing over a period of 4-5 weeks would also be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Presumably your research has told you that for various safety reasons you should exclude Gambia, Mali, Algeria, Niger, Tunisia, Libya, Chad, Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia and Eritrea.

So that leaves Morocco/Western Sahara, Mauritania and Senegal. Western Sahara (or the Southern Provinces as Morocco prefers to call it) and Mauritania are mainly desert with not much to see, Senegal is fairly expensive for what it offers.

You could very easily spend all five weeks in Morocco, get a good guidebook (Rough Guide) and map (National Geographic Adventure, or Reise Know-How).
