Nile Hilton
We are thinking of staying at the Nile Hilton. Like the idea of staying in a "western" sytle hotel. Will be in Cairo for 2 1/2 days. It is very close to the museum and a shopping mall.
Is it recommended to stay in a hotel near the bazaar area? It seems like the 4 significant areas are not close to each other (pyramids, bazaar, E museum and airport) - so looking for advice.
What is at the shopping mall vs the bazaar? Is it like a western mall or does it have the Egyptian "goods"?
What do you think is the best central location? Any hotels recommended hotels in the area (100-150 price range)? Have read many posts on hotels - but would like advice on location. Thanks

The Nile Hilton is in a very good location, about 100 feet from the Egyptian Museum. No matter which hotel you state at, you will need to take taxis, and for the money the Hilton is OK.
I have been to Cairo three times and have never heard of the shopping mall, but Khan-el-Khali has the Egyptian goods.

The Nile Hilton looks like a hotel straight out of the 50s! Not sure how comfortable the rooms are but the exterior is like going back in time.
There was a western type mall - "The First Mall" next to the Four Seasons but it didn't have that many shops, western or Egyptian. They have a web address is www.firstmall-egypt.com

There is a small shopping mall next to Hilton but nothing worth writing about. Some of my business associates stay sat Hilton from choice as service is good and food is rated some of the best in Cairo. Others say that the dated look is reflected in rooms.
I stayed at the Royal Nile which I understand is now a Hyatt and rooms are very good - renovation about 2 years ago, good pool etc and nice location jutting out into the Nile. Conrad Hilton is much newer than Nile and is next to a very good shopping mall (Arcadia) - biggest I think in Cairo. While the Mall does not offer the dubious delights of haggling it still offers a lot of very good value stuff. Kid's clothes are a really good deal as are Mobaco goods (cotton clothing) -which has shops in lots of hotel arcades as well, as well as a shop in Paris which sells the stuff at double the price.
The Mall is mainly used by middle class locals - so do not feel it is some tourist trap like the malls in hotels can be.
