Nile Cruise - SS Karim paddle steamer
I am considering a Nile cruise on the SS Karim. It is a very old paddle steamer, once owned by King Faud. It has apparently been modernised. It only has about 15 cabins. I am wondering if anyone has experienced this cruise or has any information on this vessel? Thankyou.

If this is the same steamer used in the film "Death on the Nile," we saw it tied up last month at the pier in Aswan. It looked to be in great shape and quite small compared to the block-size monsters alongside it. Looked as if it would be great fun to be aboard it on a Nile cruise.

Theo, I can't speak from personal experience, but this steamer is owned by the upscale British tour company Voyages Jules Verne. They have a web site at www.vjv.co.uk. The cruises book up far in advance, but the ship is also chartered throughout the year.

We went on this last July and it was fantastic. We were lucky enough to be with a great set of people (have kept in touch with some since getting back) which made it all the better. It is a lot slower and more elegant than anything else on the Nile. The food and service was superb. The trips start early to avoid the heat of the day (necessary but not relaxing!). The earliest start was Abu Simbel which atarted at 4am. The cabins are small but very old fashioned and antiquey in a good way and the beds wonderfully comfortable. Its not the one used in the film but similar. That one also runs from Luxor to Aswan. ANy specific questions feel free to ask.

Does anyone know where I can find pictures of the cabins?
